Filings can be submitted and created by selecting “Filing → Create filing” in the menu at the top of the window. The following ways are available for submitting filings and can be accessed via the corresponding tab pages:

  • Web Editor: Creating a new filing using the XBRL Portal’s web editor
  • Upload Filing: Upload an already existing filing
  • Upload filings from sec.gov: Upload filings from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

Processing the XBRL files takes between 15 seconds and several minutes. The process overview is displayed after uploading/saving a XBRL file. Once the filing processing is complete, the link to the submitted or rejected filing is displayed in the last column of the process table.

A new filing can be created using the web editor. The data can be captured either via input masks generated by the XBRL Portal for the individual reporting templates defined by the XBRL taxonomy, or by importing data from external data sources via predefined data source queries. In both cases, the taxonomy for which a message should be created must first by selected by providing the following information via the individual fields on the tab page:

  • Regulator: The regulator for which the report should be created (e.g. EIOPA or Deutsche Bundesbank)
  • Reporting Requirement: Depending on the selected regulator, the specific reporting requirement for which the report should be created must be selected (e.g. Solvency II ARS or FinRep Individual GAAP)
  • Reporting Entity: The entity for which the report should be created
  • Due Date: The due date of the report
  • Taxonomy: Based on the previosly entered information, all taxonomies which can be used for the new filing are listed. By clicking on a taxonomy, a description of the currently selected taxonomy is shown in the descruption description field below the list of taxonomies
  • Default Monetary Currency: The currency of the report’s monetary values

Finally, one of the two modes for the filing creation must be selected:

  • Editor: Entering the values manually via the web browser
  • Data Source Queries: Importing the values via an external data source using a predefined data source query, siehe auchsee alsoData Source Query Overview

Now a message can be created by clicking the “Create filing” button.

Upload Filing

When uploading a filing, the reporting entity must be selected first via the first drop down box. The button below is used for uploading the file itself. The file must be a compressed .zip file and may only contain a single XBRL file. Optionally, a comment can be entered in the corresponding text box. To upload the file, click on the button “Submit Filing”.

Upload filings from sec.gov

This option is only available with the appropiate permissions. This option allows loading multiple XBRL filings from the website of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) at once. The following information must be provided for executing this option:

  • From/To: The periods from which the filings are imported
  • URI: The link to the SEC's XML feed which is used for finding all filings which were uploaded in the defined time period. The URL „https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/usgaap.rss.xml“ is used by default
  • Filing Type: The type of filings which should be imported
  • Entity Group: The XBRL portal creates new entities automatically, if a filing of an entity is uploaded which does not yet exist in the tool. The newly created entity will be assigned to the entity group, which is selected in this field.

The “Upload Filings” button starts the filing import.
